Who Am I?
I could spin you a tale. One rife with trials and tribulations! Wrought with danger and love! But I'll stick to the truth, which in some cases is more interesting anyway. I was born in Berlin, Germany into a Military family. My father served in the United States Army. This was a turbulent time for the country as the Berlin Wall was still standing. But this story is about me, not the politics of the time. My life was fairly normal for a child growing up in a Military family. Though, I showed a proclivity for the creative and this made me stand out amongst my siblings. In high school, I fell into writing a great deal and doodling just for the fun of it. Though, nothing really great came of it, I feel like it did help me to hone my skills more for what was to come. I, also, got into theatre which helped with my ideas of character development.
Following high school, I joined the United States Army as a Broadcast Journalist, which helped me in further building on my ability to weave a tale. I say it this way, because I believe that anyone can tell a story. However, only a true artist can weave a tale so true to life that it makes you feel for a character that you know is fiction. Either way, this helped me in learning how to effectively tell a story with limited information and imagery. This also gave me my first introduction to video editing, videography, and graphic design.
Aside from the graphic design field, I began writing a story that had formulated in my mind that I thought I might try to publish at some point. And I have. My novel, Elements of the Flow: The Exile, is available on Amazon and has been since 2013. I am now in the process of writing the second in the trilogy, when I actually have time to get around to that.
Throughout my Army career, I learned quite a lot about graphic design theory, without actually knowing why these theories worked. After I separated from the Army, I decided to attend the University of Dubuque in their Computer Graphics/Interactive Media Undergraduate Program. In this program, I've learned the specifics behind the theories that I knew already and why they worked the way they did. I've held a 4.0 GPA thus far and will continue to strive to maintain it. Which brings me to now. I'm a semester and a half from graduating and I'm looking towards the future.
